Essays are, by definition an essay that is written to give the author’s argument however, the definition isn’t clear that covers all the elements of a letter, an essay as well as a newspaper, an article, pamphlets, and even an essay. The manner in which essays are written can determine whether they are informal or formal. This means that a formal essay is usually written in a systematic manner with proper syntax and grammar. A casual essay may use basic language, however sometimes with poor grammar. However, there are certain formal types of essays which are very commonly used, even by people who think they are not so accomplished writers.
The argument essay, sometimes referred to by the argumentative essay, is probably the most well-known kind of essay. These types of essays typically take the form of arguments and support the other side of a debate by using literary devices such as metaphors and similes to impressive impact. There is often a strong sense that polemics exist. The debate is usually separated from personal opinions or feelings about any topic. For use in college courses, essays need be in compliance with certain standards established by the department of education or be written under the supervision and guidance of a certified instructor.
Another type of essay is the descriptive. Also known as the narrative essay. This type of essay is not a long outline of a subject. Instead it presents information from various sources in a concise and clear way. It is written using the storytelling technique, which outlines the central character, event or concept in a story form. Many universities and colleges require detailed descriptions of the information and figures that are relevant to the subject and a conclusion that discuss either the subject’s strengths and weaknesses, and the intended application of the facts gathered.
Argumentative essays are the third most sought-after kind of essay. It is generally more complex than the descriptive essay. Arguments are formulated in support of a central thesis and are typically composed in response to someone else’s arguments. Students should take the time to study the arguments of both the proponents and the opponents in their essay. This will enable students to make use of their understanding of the subject to determine “What do you think is paper writing the proof?” Sound reasoning is required.
The fourth and last most popular kind of writing is the comparative. Comparative essays compare one thing or set of objects with one another, and then discuss how they are alike or different. They require thorough study to determine which facts and figures are the most pertinent to the argument they’re supporting. The conclusion is a crucial part of any comparative paper. It presents the results of the comparison.
The other types of essays commonly required for college credit are descriptive and argumentative. Argumentative essays demand that the writer simply argue a point that is usually based on personal experiences or a study of science and rely on personal experience or supposed scientific evidence to back it. Descriptive essays are similar to argumentative essays, except that they contain a narrative or description of something experienced or observed. Both types of academic essays–arguments and descriptions–contend about the subject of the essays, and the aim is to persuade the reader that the conclusion they draw is correct. Sometimes an academic writer may choose to write both an argument and a description which can be the focus of two separate papers.
Writing essays requires the writer to consider a variety of different approaches to writing the work. They should not only contain the principal ideas, but provide additional information that reinforces the key points. The student should be able after completing the essay, to defend his/her ideas using additional valid information. However, he/she must always aim to make the reader feel that their/her opinion was the most logical.
Students should avoid the mistake of focusing too much on the expression of their thoughts, as this can often lead to oversimplification–a common problem among students who attempt to write persuasive essays. Instead, they should aim to give a thorough explanation, backed up with valid research, for their opinions. A descriptive essay will not always be more convincing than an argumentative one, but it will most certainly be more engaging for the reader.
